Mailing Scam

Letters are circulating that claim to be from us and state that members' accounts have been compromised. In the letter, the scammer asks the recipient to call a number that is NOT associated with the credit union. If the number is called, the scammer continues to pretend to be a 4Front team member to gain access to the member's account. Please remember, if you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a letter, call 800-765-0110.

Here's an example of the letter and things to look out for:
Fraudulent Letter example pointing out red flags to be aware of.
  1. This letter is not on the official 4Front letterhead. Though this will not be the definitive detail of a scam, it's something that should make you take a pause.
  2. The number listed is NOT our phone number. Please be cautious of letters or emails asking you to contact any other phone number than our toll-free number, 800-765-0110.
  3. Watch out for sloppy details. It states, "do not respond to this email", even though this is a physical letter.
  4. The receiver of this letter did contact the listed phone number, and the scammer then gave them two additional numbers to contact. Note that these are not our toll-free number, 800-765-0110, or any of our direct line numbers with the area code (231).
  5. A 4Front team member will never ask for your full debit or credit card number or PIN, your online banking login credentials, or one-time verification code.
Text Phishing Scam

We have been made aware of an uptick in phishing scams circulating via text message. We have received a few examples of these text messages, but they can come in many forms. We urge you to be cautious when clicking on any links, especially from sources you are not familiar with. When in doubt, do not click on anything and call us at 800-765-0110.

Here's what to look out for when trying to spot a scam.

second example of phishing text and arrows pointing at items to look out for.
  • Many of these messages come from random phone numbers, not our usual 4Front number or a 5-digit business short code.
  • Watch out for sloppy details, like "4Front C.U" instead of 4FrontCU, or simply 4Front.
  • Weird number formatting like (910.55) instead of $910.55.
  • Strange-looking links like mmicpl.in or nspiti.in.

Stay alert, and if you believe your account has been compromised by clicking on a link, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 800-765-0110.

Postcard Scam

Members are receiving postcards urging them to call us about a time-sensitive issue with their mortgage. Please be aware that these postcards are NOT from 4Front or any legitimate financial institution.

How to tell it's a scam?
  • They ask you to call phone numbers, like: 855-959-0200, 855-901-9227, 800-230-8750, 888-405-0963, or 855-549-2127
  • The fine print states, "Not affiliated with, sponsored by, and loan information not provided by 4FRONT CREDIT UNION."
How Did They Get My Information?

Rest assured, 4Front does not sell or share your personal information. Some basic mortgage details are public records. Scammers can use that information to send misleading or fake notices. Another clue it’s fake: the account number won’t match yours.

What Happens if You Call?

You might hear a recording, hold music, or even speak to a live person. But no matter what, do not share your personal or financial information. Doing so can lead to serious financial consequences.

What Should You Do?

If you receive one of these postcards:

  1. Throw it away like any other junk mail.

  2. Don’t call the number or provide any personal info.

  3. Contact us directly at 800-765-0110 if you have concerns about your mortgage or account.

  4. Consider filing a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

Phone Spoofing Scam

4Front Credit Union's phone number is being spoofed (when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity). These scammers are socially engineering members to provide details about their account information and personal identity. Please remember that 4Front Credit Union will NEVER ask for online banking credentials, full debit or credit card numbers (CVV or PIN number), or your full social security. This is confidential information your credit union already has on file. In addition, companies like Amazon and Microsoft are being spoofed and impersonated. These types of companies will NEVER ask for the 6-digit secure access codes sent to your phone or email or your online banking credentials or instruct you on how to respond to a fraud alert text message. Do not share any personal information, and end the call if you suspect you're not talking to a legitimate representative from any company. Contact 4Front Credit Union at 231.929.2000 if you believe your account may be at risk.
