Mutual Funds | Assemble a strategic portfolio
Mutual fund are investment vehicles comprised of a pool of monies collected from many investors for the purpose of investing in securities such as stocks, bonds, money market instruments and other assets. Mutual funds are operated by professional money managers, who allocate the fund's investments and attempt to produce capital gains and/or income for the fund's investors. A mutual fund's portfolio is structured and maintained to match the investment objectives stated in its prospectus.
Investors should be aware that there are risks inherent in all investments, such as fluctuations in investment principal. This is particularly true for mutual funds.
Stocks and Bonds | Traditional investment tools remain effective
A stock is a type of security signifying ownership in a particular corporation and allows a claim on a portion of the corporation's assets and earnings. Owning stock in a company represents partial ownership of the corporation the extent to which is determined by the number of shares owned and the number of outstanding shares, or the number of stocks owned by other shareholders.
Bonds are fixed income investments in which an investor loans money to an entity, typically a corporation or government. Bonds are utilized by these entities to raise money for projects and activities and subsequently pay interest to the investor based upon a variable or fixed rate.
